Brief outline

Empty spaces, are some scenes which can be found in the city of Berlin. Observing this landscape, the performers create a choreographic route in an urban space covered by snow. The intention is to create poetry to the movement which is realized in a freeze place, it is necessary to create actions as a strategy to support the cold weather, to run is one of them. Though, a new reality of images with nature interferance is stablished.

Me and Verena found the necessity to have a third person working in this project, to make a piece or a choreography installation out of the video dance, performing it on stage or art venues. Alice Weissbarth is joining the project as a movement director.

A bit of the creative process:

Within the project, we intend to investigate the concept of representation, (researching Dorothea Olkowski, « Gilles Deleuze and the Ruin of Representation »,Gilles Deleuze, « Difference and Repetition », translated by Paul Patton)

as the title “snoWhite” suggests a certain performance content, as well as it raises certain questions regarding what might be performed. Having chosen “snoWhite” as our topic of investigation, we started working by shifting movement phrases from inside the studio to an outside space full of snow. This experience was filmed and edited as a video dance. What we are intrigued by, is the fact that it is nearly impossible to watch a performance with this particular subject title without having the association of Walt Disney’s "Snow White.”

However, the project aims to go beyond reproducing Grimm’s story. It wants literally to reproduce white snow by using different artifices, as video projection and other material as styrofoam. The main point is to cross references between the cartoon and a landscape covered by snow that will probably provide an experience of different feelings and sensations to the audience. The snow gives an esthetic and poetic view to the project.  But how could we produce a performance without any associations, if the world is covered by representation?
